Changes...

I decided to do a post this weekend rather than next since I take my final USMLE exam Wednesday, Oct. 27th (well..that is until sometime during residency, likely 2013). I am sure I will be stressed and really into the books at the library, so here's a quick update on the past week.

1. JD bought a new vehicle to accomadate his soon-to-arrive bouncing boy. He really doesn't want to admit he lives in a city! LOL. Parking up on the OHSU hill has already been a challenge, meaning walking farther with his load of stuff (lunch box, thermus for his tea, coat, etc) and constantly worrying about how close others might park. I have never seen JD so paranoid about getting a single scratch on his nice rig. It sounds like he may have similar challenges parking at work, but at least there are other people with larger vehicles, being it is a male dominated work environment! He's planning on keeping it nice and well documented like the man he bought it from too.

Here it is: 2002 Dodge Ram SRL???

Happily installing the carseat!

2. JD also turned around the next day and sold his 2001 Toyota Tacoma after having only posted it on craigslist for a few hours!! We were both shocked I think. He received 4 calls on it with the first guy that came to look buying it. Bought for 6500, sold 3 years later + driver door dent + miles at 6400 (blue book near 5800). Crazy! Toyota's sure hold their value. In the end it was like trading a smaller truck in for a larger one (very similar mileage) and only paying $1000 for the upgrade! We sold it so fast that we had to carpool the next day because I had a doctor's appointment on the East side of town (45+min bus ride didn't sound appealing). Hanging out at Starbuck's studying all day wasn't so bad, however, I did eat/drink more than I should have and got distracted at the Kohl's, Ross Dress for Less, and Hallmark stores next door!

Bye Bye old pickup:

3. Finally got my results for Step 2 CS that I took in August in Houston. I passed! Kinda anti-climatic since the read-out sheet is "PASS" and not much else. That's all I really wanted to know at first glance anyway I guess. I'm so used to getting score reports with sheets telling you where your weaknesses are...and then that score being used as an evaluation of you. Oh so happy for a Pass/Fail exam! Despite the extreme cost, I suppose I can live with its idiocracy and little value to my education.

4. JD is now working on finding a replacement vehicle for my 1998 Dodge Neon. I have loved my little purple car! It's tough to think that I will have to let it go. After my very first car died, a ?1988 Grey Subaru with cigarette burns in the seat (handed down to me from my grandpa), I got to pick out the sparkling Neon. It was used with lots of highway miles for its age, a bent axle, and an oil problem, but it has survived 10 years in my hands!! That's through high school, college, and medical school...carrying me back and forth to Los Angeles 3 times as well as back and forth to Chicago. Parking in LA and college added some dings and scratches, and with its age the paint is starting to wear itself off. Of course the husband has had his share of grief with it. When in college, he helped me replace the battery just to find out that the trunk light had a short. He has fixed different electrical, oil, belts, etc components over the years as I have complained of no heat, then no air conditioning, more electrical problems (his dad even drove an hour to help me out so I could start the car and drive home!), oil leaking or burning off too fast, bad struts (you get a horrible jolt with no shock absorption after a speed bump in my car...not fun in pregnancy), and no power steering. I must say, he and his dad have done a great job keeping her alive, and saved a lot of money! All in all, I have loved it, but we may have to give it away! Would you buy a car with so many issues and nearly 160,000 miles! It has a beautiful interior :)
(Pictures next time when we put it up for sale on craigslist)

Well, back to studying for now.
