My apologies for not posting in quite a while. JD was planning to take a picture of my 16 week belly for a post then, but we soon realized that my camera battery was dead with the charger at my parents an hour away.So...to quickly update you on the past few weeks:
My Ob/gyn rotation is now over, culminating in the birth of my first sweet baby niece! Studying for the national NBME exam (held the next morning, just after she was born) was a difficult task with all the excitement, text messaging, calls, and facebook. I must say that I likely learned more during this past rotation than many, if any, of the prior 7 rotations! Not sure if that's because I truly am more interested in the medical information in Ob/gyn or because I am pregnant and soaking up any additional information/advice about pregnancy, delivery, and breastfeeding that I can. I'll have to closely compare the specialty with Emergency Med. coming up this summer. By the way, I'm officially done with being a lowly third year! Yipee!!
JD and I just returned from our fun and somewhat relaxing vacation in Victoria, B.C. tonight. We made the trip with my grandparents, and had the chance to finally learn how to play Bridge. Of course we still have lots of learning and practice to go, but at least we have the basics down and some nice table cards for quick hints/scoring. For a vacation, I can't say I felt the best (still bloated and throwing up)...haha, but way better than my honeymoon 3 years ago! The weather here in the Pacific Northwest has been gloomy for a Memorial Day weekend, but luckily Victoria had some beautiful patches of sunshine! I just wish I had carried my camera at all times, such as during our long run/walks in the mornings or gorgeous sunset evenings. I need to get used to picture taking more often since I want to capture all I can of our soon-to-arrive little pea. Not planning on being one of those crazy picture taking moms, but at least learning to take some nice ones would be good. First, I need to work on taking my camera out!
My first rotation of 4th year is Neurology, starting with Multiple Sclerosis clinic. I'm looking forward to it since Neuro was one of my favorite classes back from the first 2 years of med. school. It will be a busy month though! I have to jump on my studying for the USMLE Step II, which I plan to take in July, and have my mock CS boards coming soon in mid-June. Oh, and trying to schedule my ultrasound/Dr's appt. without knowing my required work hours for the next month. JD is working hard as always - that includes trying to "motivate" me to get myself organized while I have the time. He's great at cooking, cleaning and keeping me sane during my 14 hour days at the hospital, but now I'm on vacation and have to pick up some slack. As I mentioned, I have the Boards coming soon, so rearranging our computer room, potential baby room, and guest bedroom is on the list of things to do this week. Maybe a haircut, some shopping, the Rose Festival, cleaning, groceries, making a home cooked dinner, visiting the niece, family game day/Mom's birthday celebration.......I can squeeze it all in to 4 days right? Well, on that note I should probably stop procrastinating and do a little of that organizing and rearranging before the hubby gets home!
